Inside or Outside of the Box?

Where do you see yourself five years from now? What do you see yourself doing and who is the person that you see in the mirror? Someone once said that, “in five years you will be all about the books that you read, the people that you associate with, and the things that you do”.  One thing for sure and without a doubt, is that you will not be the same.  You will either be more or you will be less than what you are.

I had a mentor and coach by the name of Joe Stumph who used to say, “All lasting and significant change begins on the inside and works its way to the outside”. The more people I interview and write about, the more I see the evidence and the more I believe this to be true. I have met some amazing people who have given me so much. They have chosen to live their lives outside of the box by their thinking.

The longer we remain inside of the box, the longer we are defying our blessings, or if you choose, a law of nature. When we remain in the safety of the four corners we are saying, “this is all that I am capable of doing” or “this is all that I am”. This thinking is so far from the truth.  Before we can know who we are, we must first know who we are not.

Ask yourself these questions… Is this all that I am capable of doing? Am I living up to all of my potential? Have I worked hard enough to discover all of my talent, gifts, and blessings?

Be honest with yourself and then ask yourself; what are the things that I need to do, and who are the kinds of people that I need in my life in order to grow mentally, spiritually, and physically?  All of the answers you could possibly need are within you and the task is simple yet the effort is hard.

It all comes down to desire.  Do you desire to be more than you are and are you willing to do what it takes to get there?  There is no such thing as the “status quo”. Things never remain constant.  You are either growing or you are dying.  You are either more or less…mentally, spiritually, and physically.  Either you are walking with others along the cow paths of life or you are building and growing with the anthills of progress and growth.

Remember that the truth is the truth, and it can never be bent, mutilated, or changed without consequences, as when we try to defy it. We use the truth and the absolutes to find solutions to problems. When a Boeing 747 takes off, it is not defying the laws of physics. Man has learned how to use the laws of aerodynamics to fly a ten-ton machine through space.  He has not defied the law of gravity, but he submits to the absolutes of nature to achieve great feats. This is the same with the intangible and the unseen truths.

The truth is the same and it is not relative to the person, to the circumstances, or to the times. It is not a fad and it does not fade. As Albert Einstein said, “the truth never changes, but our perception of it does”.
